EXPLORATION IN THE SCREEN

MOVING FROM BOTH THE PRECEDENT ANALYSIS  AND THE CONCEPTUAL CUT, THE INTEREST IN DISTORTION OF REGULAR MODULES MANIFESTS ITSELF AGAIN, HERE. HERE, HOWEVER, THERE IS AN INTEREST IN A SCREENS, REGULARITY AS A METHOD OF CREATING COMPELLING EXPERIENCES WITHIN ANY GIVEN ARCHITECTURE. 

A SERIES OF STUDIES WERE DONE TO UNDERSTAND LIGHTING CONDITIONS. THIS MODEL WAS CREATED TO UNDERSTAND THE EXPERIENTIAL QUALITIES THROUGH THE SCREEN. FROM HERE FORMAL MOVES WERE MADE

THIS EXPLORATION TOOK PLACE WITHIN THE BOUNDS OF A MULTIPURPOSE BUILDING; A CENTER FOR BOTH FONT-OF-HOUSE AND BACK-OF-HOUSE FOOD PRODUCTION AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT. THIS PROJECT USES THE SIMPLE BINARY CATEGORIZATION OF PROGRAMS (HIGH-OCCUPANCY AND LOW-OCCUPANCY). THE HIGH OCCUPANCY SPACES  LIE WITHIN THE CONTOURED VOLUMES IN THE DIAGRAM ABOVE, WHILE THE LOW OCCUPANCY SPACES  LIE ADJACENT TO THAT.

THE ENVELOPE OF THESE CATEGORICAL SPACES IS EITHER A REGULAR SCREEN (LOW-OCCUPANCY) OR AN IRREGULAR SCREEN (HIGH-OCCUPANCY). THE IRREGULARITY OF THE INTERNAL SCREENS IS DETERMINED BY PROJECTING THE APERTURES IN THE REGULAR SCREEN ONTO THE INTERIOR SCREENS FROM ALL SIDES. THIS CREATES APERTURES IN THE SCREEN THAT TRACK THE FORM OF THE HIGH OCCUPANCY SPACES, TO FORM THE "MOIRE" PATTERN IN THE UNFOLDED ELEVATIONS ABOVE. THIS PATTERN SERVES TWO PURPOSES: TO CREATE AND ALLOW DAY-LIGHTING AND VENTILATION, AND TO ALLOW FOR A RANGE OF EXPERIENCES THROUGHOUT THE VARIOUS LAYERS OF THE BUILDING
